Universe Group PLC
7 June 2000

                     UNIVERSE GROUP PLC

HTEC takes Loyalty to the Internet in Holland

Universe Group, the retail and information systems company,
announces completion of the first two stages of HTEC's Internet
development carried out jointly with HTEC's customer BP
Netherlands and Zon, the free Internet Service Provider in
Holland. This will be the first successfully designed and
implemented system to fully integrate physical world and
Internet based loyalty schemes.

In May 2000, BP Netherlands launched a new web site,, a portal for BP FreeBees loyalty card-holders.
From 2 June, the new web site will allow card-holders to access
their virtual account balances and transfer FreeBees loyalty
points from the account to a loyalty card. BP Netherlands has
partnered with Zon, which will be issuing digital FreeBees
loyalty points to its web customers as a reward for using Zon
as their ISP. BP Netherlands' customers may register their
existing FreeBees card, request a card to participate in the
scheme or donate their digital FreeBees points to another card-

HTEC has developed the intelligent web interface for
Zon/FreeBees Internet customers. Behind this interface HTEC
has designed a sophisticated database management system to
control accounts and the flow of points from HTEC web server to
petrol station, where they can be picked up by the customer.
HTEC operates and manages the system for BP Netherlands.

Ray Mackie, Chairman of Universe Group, said 'This is a
brilliant and utterly practical Internet product. It firmly
establishes HTEC's capability in implementing complex Internet
