Xaar PLC

Appointment of Chairman

Xaar PLC
16 May 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 16 May 2007

                                    Xaar plc

Xaar plc ('Xaar' or 'the Company'), the inkjet printing technology group
headquartered in Cambridge, is pleased to announce that Mr. Phil Lawler will be
appointed as a non-executive director with effect from 1 June 2007. Following a
handover period, Mr. Lawler will become non-executive Chairman of the company
with effect from 1 July 2007.

Arie Rosenfeld will retire from the Board at that time, having been Chairman of
Xaar since before the Company's IPO in October 1997. During his decade as
Chairman, Xaar's revenues have increased tenfold.

Phil Lawler, aged 58, has extensive experience of high-technology industries,
having spent 18 years until 2002 at Hewlett-Packard in various senior positions,
most recently as Chairman and Managing Director of Hewlett-Packard, UK and
Ireland. After leaving Hewlett-Packard, Mr. Lawler has been a director of a
number of technology companies including several private companies where he has
been introduced by venture capital investors. He is currently non-executive
Chairman of EGS Ltd. and between 2003 and 2005 he was non-executive Chairman of
Densitron Technologies plc.

Ian Dinwoodie, Chief Executive commented:

'On behalf of the whole Board, I would like to thank Arie Rosenfeld for the
leadership and wise counsel he has provided over the past decade during which he
contributed so much to Xaar's development into one of the world leaders in
digital inkjet technologies.

'We are delighted to welcome Phil Lawler as our new Chairman. He brings a wealth
of invaluable experience to Xaar gained in both large and small technology
businesses where managing global growth has been critical.'

Phil Lawler, Chairman designate said:

'I am delighted to join Xaar at a time when inkjet is only just beginning to
move into mainstream printing markets and many new potential markets are opening
up. Xaar has a strong executive management team which, I am confident, will
ensure that the Company benefits from these exciting opportunities.'

Additional information:

Mr. Lawler was non-executive Chairman of Empower Interactive Group Ltd., a
private, highly leveraged, venture capital backed company. As this company was
unable to raise its latest round of finance, the board considered that it was no
longer a 'going concern' and took appropriate action, placing the company into
Administration in November 2006.

Other than as stated above, there is no information concerning Philip James
Lawler which requires disclosure under Rule LR 9.6.13 of the UK Listing
Authority Listing Rules.
