UTV Launches Internet Service

Ulster Television PLC
7 June 2000

Ulster Television ('UTV') has today announced the launch of the first free
'all Ireland' internet service, UTV Internet, involving subscription free
internet access in both parts of the island. Moreover, Northern Ireland
subscribers can avail of unlimited off-peak calls to the internet with no
per-minute charges, through the unmetered access proposition.

At the same time, UTV has announced its entry into the telecommunications
market in Northern Ireland. The telephony offering will mean local rate
charges for all calls in Northern Ireland and a discount of at least 25% on
all local, national and international calls, compared with BT's standard rate,
combined with the unmetered internet access package.

Ulster Television has developed a number of strategic alliances with key
telecom providers such as nevada*, MCI Worldcom and Ocean** to
deliver this innovative and high quality internet service across the whole

The UTV Internet launch follows Ulster Television's acquisition of the leading
Northern Ireland internet service provider, Direct Net Access Limited (DNA),
in early 2000.

In addition to the development of these strategic alliances, the new service
will carry the strength of the UTV brand name, assuring reliability and
quality of service. As a result, this service is targeted to attract some
60,000 subscribers in its first year of service.

Commenting on the UTV Internet launch, Ulster Television Managing Director,
John McCann said: 'When we acquired DNA we said we wanted to bring the world
of the internet into our viewers' homes - with UTV Internet that's exactly
what we are offering. We were the first indigenous broadcaster on the island
more than 40 years ago and now we are delighted to be taking the lead again by
becoming the first free internet provider throughout the island.

'Our progression into the internet market is a natural extension of our
existing business. It comes at a time when digital technology is
revolutionising the viewing experience and giving the viewer the power to
schedule, participate, purchase or otherwise interact in a host of different

'Our intention is to be at the centre of the communications revolution within
the island of Ireland and to provide the entire range of services which the
consumer will increasingly expect and demand. Our re-launch of DNA as UTV
Internet is the first step in redefining our business as a broad media
