The Company was informed on 8 November 2000 that General Electric Investment
Corporation (GEIC) and GE Investment Management Incorporated (GEIM) on 8
November 2000 held an aggregate of 11,532,480 10p ordinary shares of
Somerfield plc, which represents 2.34% of the ordinary issued share capital of
Somerfield plc so ceases to be a notifiable interest within the meaning of
section 199 of the Companies Act 1985.
GEIC and GEIM are investment advisors registered with the United States
Securities and Exchange Commission, and are wholly-owned direct subsidiaries
of the General Electric Company.
