                   Appointment of New Non-Executive Director


Mothercare plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Karren Brady as a
non-executive to the Board with immediate effect.

Karren Brady (34) is Managing Director of Birmingham City Football Club plc, the
Premiership club.  Under her leadership, the company's revenue has grown
significantly and it has moved from loss to profit.

Commenting on her appointment, Ian Peacock, Chairman, said:

'We are delighted to welcome Karren Brady to the Board of Mothercare.  As
Managing Director of Birmingham City Football Club, Karren's success has
demonstrated both her commercialism and dynamic leadership. She will be a great
