Aberdeen Asset Management PLC announces in conformity with the Transparency
Directive's transitional provision 6 we would like to notify the market of the
following:


Edinburgh New Income Trust plc consists of 20,519,056 ordinary 1p shares and
15,166,618 zdp 1p shares with voting rights.  Edinburgh New Income holds nil
ordinary shares in Treasury.

Therefore, the total number of voting rights in Edinburgh New Income is
35,685,674.

The above figure (35,685,674) may be used by shareholders as the denominator for
the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify
their interest in, or a change to their interest in, Edinburgh New Income under
the FSA's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
