Introduction of Unlimited Evening Surfing

British Telecommunications PLC 29 February 2000 BT INTERNET INTRODUCES UNLIMITED EVENING SURFING AND A CUT PRICE SUBSCRIPTION FOR NET GENERATION BT Internet customers are to be offered unlimited Internet access every evening in addition to the current weekend offer and a cut of 15 per cent on subscription fees, BT announced today. From tomorrow, BT Internet customers will get unlimited Internet calls in the evenings (from 6pm to midnight) and on weekends (from Friday midnight to Sunday midnight) for a new monthly subscription fee of just £9.99, reduced from £11.75. This will give BT Internet users up to 78 hours surfing time every week. Outside the unlimited surfing times, users will only pay local call rates*. The annual subscription fee has also been reduced from £129.25 to £109.89, offering 12 months service for the price of 11. Ben Andradi, managing director of BT Internet and e-Business, said: 'This new offering demonstrates our commitment to get everyone in the UK on the Internet. It supports our strategy to become the leading consumer ISP and portal, and is the first in a series of Internet initiatives building the net generation. 'BT Internet will provide consumers with more than 312 hours unlimited surfing time every month for just £9.99. Users can surf at their leisure and fully discover the benefits of the online society, giving them great value for their money.' The move makes BT Internet one of the most competitive ISPs available - offering great value for money, with unlimited Internet access during the time that most people use the world wide web. This will enable customers to spend evening and weekends downloading new software from the Internet, e-booking holidays or replying to e-mails with no worries about the cost of Internet calls whilst online. It will provide even bigger savings for many customers than subscription- free ISPs. BT Internet will also introduce a SMS (short messaging service) facility powered by Genie - the UK's first and leading mobile ISP from BTCellnet - enabling messages to be sent to mobile phones from a PC.
