Sun Life Fin.Services of Canada Inc 11 May 2000 SUN LIFE FINANCIAL SERVICES OF CANADA INC. NORMAL COURSE ISSUER BID (TORONTO, May 11, 2000) - Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc. ('the Company') announced today that, subject to regulatory approval, the Company's Board of Directors has authorized the purchase of up to 21,084,422 common shares (the 'Common Shares') representing 5% of the 421,688,442 currently outstanding Common Shares under a normal course issuer bid pursuant to the rules of The Toronto Stock Exchange. The period of the normal course issuer bid will be from May 15, 2000 to May 14, 2001, or such earlier date as the Company may complete its purchases. The purchases will be made through the facilities of The Toronto Stock Exchange. The prices which the Company will pay for any Common Shares will be the market price of the Common Shares at the time of acquisition. The Company will make no purchases of Common Shares other than open-market purchases. Any Common Shares acquired by the Company will be cancelled. From time to time, the market prices of the Common Shares may not fully reflect the value of the Company's business and its future business prospects. As a result, the Company believes that the purchase of its Common Shares may represent an appropriate and desirable use of its available funds.
