(TORONTO, May 11, 2000) - Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc. ('the
Company') announced today that, subject to regulatory approval, the Company's
Board of Directors has authorized the purchase of up to 21,084,422 common

outstanding Common Shares under a normal course issuer bid pursuant to the
rules of The Toronto Stock Exchange.
The period of the normal course issuer bid will be from May 15, 2000 to May
14, 2001, or such earlier date as the Company may complete its purchases. The

The prices which the Company will pay for any Common Shares will be the market
price of the Common Shares at the time of acquisition. The Company will make
no purchases of Common Shares other than open-market purchases. Any Common
Shares acquired by the Company will be cancelled.
From time to time, the market prices of the Common Shares may not fully
