AGM Trading Update and GEO constellation contract award
Filtronic plc (AIM: FTC), a designer and manufacturer of advanced RF solutions for the space, aerospace and defence, and telecoms infrastructure markets, is pleased to provide the following update ahead of its Annual General Meeting, being held at 11.00am today.
Strong cadence of order flow in FY2027
The Company has maintained its commercial traction into FY2027, with significant new orders, expanding customer relationships and continued progress in its technology roadmap. These developments reinforce the Group's strategy to capitalise on the growing space market, strengthen its position in the defence sector and move up the value chain by delivering increasingly sophisticated, higher-value RF systems to a diversified customer base.
At the beginning of October, Filtronic secured its largest-ever order, valued at $68.1m (£51.3m), from SpaceX for the supply of its Cerus E-band gallium nitride ("GaN") Solid State Power Amplifier ("SSPA") units. This landmark award further strengthens the Group's strategic relationship with SpaceX, demonstrates the scale of opportunity available in next-generation satellite communications and provides substantial forward order visibility.
Filtronic also continues to broaden its presence with other customers across the satellite communications market. Since the start of FY2027, the Company has secured two further contracts, totalling $16.0m (£11.1m), with a US-based customer for the design, development and manufacture of prototype units for satellite deployment. These awards demonstrate progress in the relationship and underpin the Group's strategy to move beyond individual components into higher-value systems, increasing its contribution to customer programmes and creating wider opportunities for future growth.
Integrated systems progress and new orbits
Filtronic continues to translate its engineering expertise into more integrated solutions for increasingly complex customer requirements.
The Company has recently completed development of its first 200W SSPA system, a much higher power unit generating 10x the power of the Cerus 32 Gallium Arsenide product, for use in medium Earth orbit ("MEO") and geostationary Earth orbit ("GEO") satellite constellations. This has been a key part of Filtronic's strategy to open the new orbits with Gallium Nitride technology. Already generating encouraging commercial interest, this is a tangible demonstration of the Group's strategy in action, creating opportunities to deliver higher-value solutions and expand its role in future satellite programmes.
Reflecting this progress, the Company is pleased to announce its first contract award with a US satellite manufacturer operating GEO satellites in the Ka-band. The initial contract, valued at $0.3m, covers the development phase, with expected further orders leading to production volumes.
Filtronic has also completed its first Digital Intermediate Frequency ("Di-Fi") product, recently demonstrated at Plugfest, a major industry testing event in Silicon Valley, where it attracted positive engagement. This milestone further broadens the Group's technology offering for next-generation communications systems.
Continued progress in defence
Alongside its strong performance in space, Filtronic continues to build its defence business and diversify its revenue base. The Company has secured three new contracts, with a combined value of £2.1m, to supply next-generation technology for airborne radar systems. These awards extend existing programme activity and build on the continued growth in defence revenues achieved in FY2026.
In addition, the Company secured a £2m grant from UK Defence Innovation ("UKDI") in the first half of the financial year to advance its chipset technology roadmap for ground-based and satellite payload systems, supporting the development of advanced capabilities across both markets.
Well-positioned for growth
Filtronic continues to build on its commercial momentum, in space and defence, with further customer wins and new technologies opening additional opportunities, reinforcing delivery against the Group's strategy.
The contracted order book gives significant revenue cover for the current financial year, as well as increased visibility for outer years. This provides the Board with confidence in delivering in line with market expectations.
