("Boku" or the "Company")
Boku appoints Peter Klein as Chief Commercial Officer
Boku (AIM: BOKU), a global network of local payment methods (LPMs), is delighted to announce that it has appointed Peter Klein as Chief Commercial Officer as of today.
Peter brings more than 25 years' experience building and scaling payments, fintech and financial infrastructure businesses across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Peter will lead Boku's commercial organisation, including the go-to-market function, with a focus on scaling merchant growth, deepening strategic partnerships and expanding the LPM network. He will join Boku's Global Leadership Team and report into Stuart Neal, the company's CEO.
Peter joins Boku from Mastercard, where he built and co-led the global Account-to-Account and Cross-Border Payments business. There, he defined the enterprise commercial strategy for non-card payments, driving international revenue growth both organically and through targeted acquisitions, including the execution. He also served as Chair of Mastercard Payment Services in the Nordics and as a Non-Executive Director of Mastercard Europe.
Earlier in his career, Peter held senior leadership roles at J.P. Morgan and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, established Saxo Bank UK as CEO, and later served as President of Earthport plc, leading the business through a significant commercial and operational transformation. He also serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Crown Agents Bank (LON: CABP).
This appointment supports Boku's next phase of growth as it continues to expand its global payments network. With LPMs expected to account for more than 60% of transactions in a global e-commerce market forecast to reach $10.6trn by 2028, the opportunity remains significant. As consumer preference for LPMs grows, merchants increasingly need payment infrastructure that enables them to reach these customers at scale. Through a single integration, Boku provides merchants with access to hundreds of LPMs across more than 60 countries, along with cross-border money movement and product bundling capabilities to support international growth.
Stuart Neal, CEO of Boku, said: "Peter brings a wealth of sector experience and a clear understanding of how to navigate fragmented payment ecosystems and to translate that complexity into real value for merchants. Global e-commerce is increasingly dependent on a diverse range of mobile native payment methods, and Boku's role as a growth partner to merchants around the world continues to deepen. Our priority now is to capitalise on this opportunity by expanding into new markets, adding products and payment methods to our platforms that add value to our expanding merchant base and partner network. His experience will be instrumental as we sharpen execution and accelerate the next stage of Boku's development."
Peter Klein said: "I'm excited to be joining Boku at an important time for the business and the payments sector. Having spent much of my career building global payments businesses, I've seen first-hand how the industry is constantly evolving beyond traditional card networks. Boku has earned the trust of many of the world's leading digital merchants by solving real complexity in local payments. I'm looking forward to working with the team to scale what's already in place and drive continued growth"
