Light Science Technologies

The small cap lighting technology company issued a note this morning advising that they had been awarded an AgTech contract to support a vertical farming project. The deal is worth just under £500k and continues the conversion of the. group’s £45m pipeline in the sector. The Light Science Technologies share price was 10% higher in early trade as a result.

HSBC

Banking giant HSBC was the biggest faller in the FTSE-100 this morning after the company advised that it was making a $1.1bn provision against an ongoing court ruling. That will have a 15 basis point impact on capital ratios but isn’t expected to hit the full year RoTE metric. However one point that has been flagged in the fact that the actual cost may be significantly different at the conclusion of this process. The HSBC share price was as much as 2% lower at the bell but has been recovering losses since.

Goodwin

A trading update from the engineering company Goodwin gave the market something to cheer at the open. A strong performance across the business has seen management elect to dramatically increase the full year outlook, and now expect profits to exceed £71m. The board normally doesn’t provide forward guidance like this but the magnitude of the gain has warranted the move, whilst there’s also a special dividend being paid out quickly, in a bid to return cash to investors before the budget. The Goodwin share price was up 29% in the first half hour of trade.
