REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES

The Board of Finsbury Worldwide Pharmaceutical Trust PLC announces that on 6
January 2000 the Company repurchased for cancellation 1,000,000 of the Company's
ordinary shares of 25p, representing 2.5% of the issued ordinary share capital,
at a price of 235.0p per share.

The Company has authority from shareholders to repurchase a further 5,016,986
ordinary shares before its next Annual General Meeting, which will be held in
August 2000.
