£100m of contract renewals and expansion

Wincanton confirms leadership in transport management

Wincanton plc ('Wincanton' or the 'Group'), the leading European supply chain solutions provider, is pleased to announce two prestigious contract awards for warehousing and transport services in the UK which will generate more than £100m of turnover for the Group.

Wincanton has secured a long-term contract renewal and a further extension of its 13-year partnership with HJ Heinz. Wincanton has also been awarded a new 3-year contract by Panasonic to manage its nationwide outbound transport from its National Distribution Centre in Northampton, building on a relationship established in 2002.

The 3-year extension of the transport contract and the 4-year extension of the warehousing contract with HJ Heinz confirms Wincanton's position as the primary national supplier of warehousing and transportation services for all of the HJ Heinz brands including HP and Amoy. Under the contract, Wincanton will continue to manage both HJ Heinz's dedicated 350,000 sq. ft. ambient, automated warehouse, a co-packing operation which processes over 8 million cases per year and a networked transport fleet.

Under the new contract with Panasonic, Wincanton will manage the UK distribution of Panasonic goods to both high street and independent retailers each year using its wider transport network. This contract win follows a project to maximise backhauling opportunities through the services of a dedicated Wincanton transport manager based within the customer's supply chain team.

For both customers, Wincanton has consistently generated efficiencies in transport and has optimised the utilisation of their fleets by leveraging its extended national network. This has reduced reliance on sub-contractors and increased backhaul opportunities. The regional load planning teams optimise the sharing of vehicle capacity with other Wincanton customers such as GSK, Britvic, Unilever and Adidas.

Wincanton manages a fleet of some 5,000 vehicles across the UK, on both a dedicated and shared user basis, and leverages the strengths of this network to deliver operational efficiency, and emission reductions to its customers. This market-leading national infrastructure brings scale, flexibility and environmental benefit to the major retailers and manufacturers in the Group's blue-chip customer portfolio.

John Hans, Chief Commercial Officer UK & Ireland, HJ Heinz, commented:

'Wincanton is one of our most trusted business partners with an excellent track record of delivering operational efficiency. They share our goal of further carbon emission reduction through fleet optimisation. We are delighted to be extending our successful relationship.'

Graeme McFaull, Wincanton Chief Executive commented:

'The scale, flexibility and efficiency of our national transport infrastructure gives Wincanton a market-leading platform for the delivery of operational and environmental benefits for our customers.

We are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Panasonic and building further on our long-standing partnership with HJ Heinz.'
