Weir Group PLC 24 May 2006 THE WEIR GROUP PLC 24 May 2006 Weir Defence, Nuclear & Gas Division wins contracts totalling over £75 million The Weir Group PLC is pleased to announce that its Defence Nuclear & Gas Division has been awarded contracts totalling over £75 million. Bristol based Weir Strachan and Henshaw has been awarded a £37 million contract from Navantia to design and supply the Weapon Launch System for the Spanish Navy's new submarine fleet. The System will enable these new boats to carry and launch state-of-the-art torpedoes and underwater weapons. The first of four submarines is planned to enter service in 2012. The contract recognises Weir Strachan & Henshaw's capability to develop world-class systems for major submarine projects. In Edinburgh, Weir LGE Process has been awarded contracts to the value of £40 million by Hyundai Heavy Industries for the design and supply of gas handling equipment on eleven new LPG carriers. The carriers will be constructed at Hyundai's Korean shipyards for Norwegian ship owner, Solvang, German owner GOIC and Petrodec of Monaco. The contracts also include the supervision of installation, commissioning and start-up of the cargo handling plants. The ships are due for delivery between 2007 and 2009. Mark Selway, chief executive of The Weir Group PLC said: 'We are delighted with these new orders. While minimal impact can be expected in 2006 and 2007, these contracts provide a further catalyst for growth in our Defence, Nuclear & Gas Division in 2008 and beyond.'
