Vodafone introduces EUROCALL

Vodafone Group PLC 16 January 2001 VODAFONE INTRODUCES EUROCALL - THE SIMPLE WAY TO CALL ACROSS EUROPE Vodafone Group Plc has today announced the introduction of Eurocall, an innovative new service making the use of mobile phones when travelling across Europe simple, transparent and better value. Using Eurocall customers will be charged a single rate when making and receiving calls within Europe on any Vodafone partner network in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, or the United Kingdom. Eurocall, available to over 70 million mobile customers in Europe, is the first Pan-European branded service to be introduced by Vodafone and will become operational in each of the countries by March 2001. Using Eurocall, customers will receive a single rate charge of EUR 0.80 per minute when making calls on their mobile phones on Vodafone partner networks to any country within Western Europe (Note 1). This simple system gives customers the ability to always know what a call costs before they make it. Eurocall replaces the current system where roaming prices can depend on the time of day, home network of the customer, visited network, and destination of the call within Europe. Currently, a customer can face over 10,000 possible roaming tariffs for making calls. Eurocall customers will also be given a simplified tariff for calls received whilst roaming. This will be set by the customer's home network and will apply to calls received on any network in Western Europe. Commenting, Thomas Geitner, Chief Operating Officer of Vodafone Europe, said: 'The launch of the Eurocall offers customers a simple, transparent and attractive service for their international calls when roaming in Europe. Customers will continue to use their current domestic tariffs. Eurocall is the first pan-European service offer that we have made available over our extensive European footprint and is the first step in bringing to our customers one of the key benefits of the Vodafone brand and presence throughout Europe. We expect to introduce further innovative services in the near future'. Eurocall customers will also benefit from a single rate tariff for making calls that originate on all other mobile networks throughout Western Europe. The actual rate will be set by each customer's home network and will be in the region of EUR 1 per minute. Customers who have already signed up to the Eurocall service include Unilever and Siemens.
