Key Performance Indicators

Vodafone Group PLC 25 October 2001 25 October 2001 VODAFONE ARPU CONTINUES TO STABILISE Vodafone Group Plc ('Vodafone') today announces key performance indicators for the three month period to 30 September 2001, including measures which indicate the continued stabilisation of registered blended average revenue per user (' ARPU'). Customer Activity Levels The total inactive customer base in Vodafone's controlled subsidiaries at 30 September 2001 was 10%, the same level as reported at 30 June 2001. This comprises contract activity levels of 96% and prepaid activity levels of 88% compared to 96% and 87% respectively at 30 June 2001, showing an expected improvement in prepaid. In Germany, prepaid and total activity levels improved by 1% due to the predicted increase in disconnections in the quarter following the unprecedented growth in customers last year. Activity levels in the UK and Italy have remained constant in the period to 30 September 2001 at 84% and 93% respectively. Registered Blended ARPU The trend in registered ARPU for the Group continues to show signs of stabilising, as demonstrated by the following information for the Group's largest controlled networks, despite a shorter working month in September. In the quarter, registered blended ARPU increased in each of these markets compared to the previous quarter. This increased to 9.1% in the year to 30 September 2001, split 8.7% for messaging and 0.4% for internet. In the month of September this figure rose to 9.9% split 9.5% and 0.4% respectively. For the Group, as a whole on a proportionate basis, including associates, the corresponding figure was 7.1% for the year and 8.4% in the month of September. Sir Christopher Gent, Chief Executive of Vodafone said: 'This quarter's numbers represent an improved performance in the Group's operations, with customer growth ahead of our expectations, despite the reduction in handset subsidies. The continuing stability in ARPU is encouraging, particularly as it is occurring a year before we had anticipated. The increase in our data indicators confirms we are on track to meet our data revenue targets.' - ends - For further information: Tim Brown, Group Corporate Affairs Director Melissa Stimpson, Head of Group Investor Relations Darren Jones, Senior Investor Relations Manager Jon Earl, Investor Relations Manager Tel: +44 (0) 1635 673310 Lulu Bridges / John West Tavistock Communications Tel: +44 (0) 20 7600 2288 VODAFONE GROUP PLC - MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUSINESSES CUSTOMER INFORMATION AS AT 30 SEPTEMBER 2001 REGISTERED PERCENTAGE PROPORTIONATE REGISTERED COUNTRY OPERATOR OWNERSHIP2 CUSTOMERS PREPAID (thousands) (%) NORTHERN EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA UK Vodafone+ 100.0 12,799 64 Ireland Eircell Vodafone 100.0 1,611 71 Netherlands Libertel Vodafone 70.0 2,256 66 Sweden Europolitan Vodafone+ 71.1 762 25 Egypt Click Vodafone+ 60.0 844 89 Others 6,592 59 TOTAL 24,864 62 CENTRAL EUROPE Germany D2 Vodafone 99.6 21,787 60 Hungary Vodafone+ 50.1 169 90 Others 1,498 41 TOTAL 23,454 56 SOUTHERN EUROPE Greece Panafon Vodafone+ 52.8 1,423 72 Italy Omnitel Vodafone 76.5 12,738 91 Malta Vodafone+ 80.0 105 91 Portugal Vodafone 50.9 * * Spain Airtel Vodafone 91.6 6,824 56 Albania Vodafone 76.9 41 99 Romania Mobifon 20.1 N/A N/A TOTAL 22,815 78 AMERICAS AND ASIA United States Verizon Wireless3 44.1 12,658 6 Japan J-Phone Various 6,726 3 Others 1,993 48 TOTAL 21,377 32 PACIFIC Australia Vodafone 95.5 1,991 34 New Zealand Vodafone 100.0 1,077 78 Fiji Vodafone 49.0 36 90 TOTAL 3,104 50 GROUP TOTAL 95,614 48 CONTROLLED CONTROLLED ACTIVE1 INACTIVE COUNTRY OPERATOR PREPAID CONTRACT TOTAL TOTAL (%) (%) (%) (%) NORTHERN EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA UK Vodafone+ 75 99 84 16 Ireland Eircell Vodafone 97 98 97 3 Netherlands Libertel 93 99 95 5 Vodafone Sweden Europolitan 82 91 89 11 Vodafone+ Egypt Click Vodafone+ 97 97 97 3 Others N/A N/A N/A N/A TOTAL 82 98 88 12 CENTRAL EUROPE Germany D2 Vodafone 88 95 91 9 Hungary Vodafone+ 89 97 89 11 Others N/A N/A N/A N/A TOTAL 88 95 91 9 SOUTHERN EUROPE Greece Panafon Vodafone * * * * + Italy Omnitel Vodafone 94 92 93 7 Malta Vodafone+ 93 99 94 6 Portugal Vodafone * * * * Spain Airtel Vodafone 85 95 89 11 Albania Vodafone N/A N/A N/A N/A Romania Mobifon N/A N/A N/A N/A TOTAL 90 94 91 9 AMERICAS AND ASIA United States Verizon N/A N/A N/A N/A Wireless3 Japan J-Phone N/A N/A N/A N/A Others N/A N/A N/A N/A TOTAL N/A N/A N/A N/A PACIFIC Australia Vodafone 88 94 92 8 New Zealand Vodafone 91 99 93 7 Fiji Vodafone N/A N/A N/A N/A TOTAL 90 95 92 8 GROUP TOTAL 88 96 90 10 1 Active customers are defined as customers who have made or received a chargeable event in the last three months or, where information is not available, defined as customers who have made a chargeable event in the last three months (indicated by +). 2 All ownership percentages are stated as of 30 September 2001 and exclude options, warrants or other rights or obligations of Vodafone Group Plc to increase or decrease ownership in any venture.
