Electra Investment Trust PLC 11 April 2000 ELECTRA INVESTMENT TRUST PLC AGREES TO THE DISPOSAL OF ITS SHAREHOLDING IN ROBERT FLEMING HOLDINGS LIMITED AND DISPOSAL OF ASPEN HEALTHCARE Flemings EIT notes the announcement today by the Board of The Chase Manhattan Corporation ('Chase') and Robert Fleming Holdings Limited ('Flemings') of the terms of a recommended offer for Flemings to be made by Chase. EIT has given irrevocable undertaking to accept the offer by Chase for Flemings. The offer values EIT's holding of 1.1 million shares in Flemings at £30.2 million. If completed on the terms recommended by Flemings, this would represent an uplift in net asset value per EIT Ordinary share of 18p on the £10.4 million valuation included in EIT's accounts as at 30 September 1999. Aspen Healthcare EIT announces that it has sold Aspen Healthcare ('Aspen'), the UK private hospital group, to United Surgical Partners of the USA for an undisclosed sum. Aspen owns two private hospitals in Greater London, as well as a building intended for redevelopment as a private cancer treatment centre in Wimbledon. EIT's original investment in the business was £10.2 million of which £6.7 million was repaid in April 1999. As a result of the sale EIT will receive proceeds of £11.7 million. This compares with a valuation of the investment as at 30 September 1999 of £11.5 million. Proceeds from this disposal will be used to reduce bank borrowings further. Total proceeds of £18.4 million from the investment represent a multiple of 1.8 times cost over a period of 2 years.
