          Market Purchase of Company's Own Shares


Notification  is  given  that  pursuant  to  the  authority
granted  at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company
held  on  22  July  1999 to make market  purchases  of  the
Company's own shares of 25p, a market purchase of 2,000,000
ordinary  shares of 25p each in the capital of the  Company
was made today at a price of 42.50p per share.

Following this purchase and cancellation there will be
456,373,222 shares in issue.
