Sutton Harbour update

Sutton Harbour Holdings plc, the AIM listed marine, waterfront regeneration and destination specialist, is pleased to announce positive progress against its strategy to invest in new restaurants, cafes, shops, offices and apartments to ensure that Sutton Harbour reinforces its position as a leading waterfront destination in the UK.

Letting of vacant unit

The Company has secured a five year letting in one of the vacant units at Sutton Harbour in Plymouth commencing 1st September 2013. The letting is to Edge Recruits Limited, a recruitment agency which specialises in finding people temporary work or permanent jobs in many employment sectors and categories across the South West and beyond. Edge Recruits supply staff to many of the region's major employers and to numerous smaller employers too.

Reopening of Harbour Heritage Trail

The scenic circular Heritage Trail around Plymouth's historic Sutton Harbour has re-opened following improvements in safety and accessibility. The Harbour Heritage Trail fulfils one of the key policy objectives of the Sutton Harbour Area Action Plan.

Sutton Harbour Holdings and Cornwall-based property development company, The Rowe Group, have provided funding for the first phase of improvements to the section of the path leading from the Harbour Car Park past the Lockyers Quay Pub, so that walkers can enjoy the one-mile route around the harbour and see more of one of the most interesting historic areas of Plymouth.

The trail should provide a boost in passing trade for the pubs, restaurants, cafes and attractions on the route, and will also give more visitors a chance to participate in the many summer events taking place in and around the Harbour such as the 26th annual Sutton Harbour Classic Boat Rally which is taking place between 26th July and 30th July. The Harbour will be home to over 70 vessels spanning over a century of sailing, including the star attraction - Gypsy Moth IV.

Opening of the 'real food kitchen'

The first step in the next phase of the regeneration plan is already underway with the opening of the 'real food kitchen'. This is a new environmentally friendly café located at Quay Point at one of 12 underused sites identified by Sutton Harbour Holdings for potential development. It offers natural food made from local ingredients and has created five new jobs.  Adding this to the recent opening of Mitch Tonks' widely acclaimed new Rockfish Sutton Harbour restaurant, next door to the National Marine Aquarium Sutton Harbour is already providing new dining experiences for visitors to this outstanding location.

Jason Schofield, Chief Executive of Sutton Harbour Holdings said: "We are pleased to be able to provide this update on several areas of progress for the business. With a growing interest in renting vacant units, and the reopening of several of the most attractive elements of the area, it is clear that the regeneration of Sutton Harbour is progressing well.

With the first phase of improvements complete, we are now preparing to submit a revised planning application for the £4 million boardwalk development. In addition to completing the Sutton Harbour Heritage Trail, this would bring more family restaurants and shops to the waterfront and act as a catalyst to help revitalise and regenerate the north and eastern areas of Sutton Harbour.  With the added vitality being created due to the recent announcement by the University of Plymouth to locate its Graduate School of Management in Mast House, Sutton Harbour (the former Government Office for the South West building) the area continues to grow in popularity."
