The order was placed in August 2002 by Surface Transforms's aircraft brake partner. The two companies are collaborating on a programme to supply carbon ceramic brake discs for use on large commercial aircraft. The order is likely to be followed by a larger one from the same customer to design, manufacture and commission a much larger capacity carbon ceramic brake plant. Work on the new larger plant will begin after test production runs on the current plant have been successfully completed. Currently, the new plant is being run at Surface Transforms's manufacturing base in Cheshire. It has been commissioned and is fully operational. Once the testing has been fully completed, the plant will be transferred to the premises of its aircraft brake partner. Julio Faria, Managing Director, commented: 'We have completed this order on time and to budget, and testing of this plant is progressing. It's a great way to start the year.'
