New business from long term savings is calculated in accordance with the life assurance industry convention by adding together new regular premiums and one-tenth of single premiums and unit trust sales. 2. Sales of manufactured business on an APE basis for the nine months were 82% of the total reported. Sales of stakeholder pensions by St. James's Place Partnership have been included in the reported figures under Pensions. These amount to £12.5 million new regular premiums (2004: £12.5 million) and £17.3 million single premiums (2004: £18.7 million) for the nine months to 30 September 2005. This equates to £14.2 million new business premiums (2004: £14.4 million). Sales of annuities by St. James's Place Partnership have been included for the first time in the reported figures under Pensions. These amount to £23.7 million single premiums for the nine months to 30 September 2005 and equate to £2.4 million new business premiums. The equivalent figure for the 2004 sales of annuities was £16.0 million single premiums (£1.6 million new business premiums). Sales of protection business through a panel of providers have been included in the reported figures under New Regular Premiums Protection. These amount to £11.0 million of new regular premiums (2004: £11.1 million) for the nine months to 30 September 2005. This equates to £11.0 million new business premiums (2004: £11.1 million). 3.
