FINAL DIVIDEND FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2010

SCRIP ALTERNATIVE

SSE (Scottish and Southern Energy plc) announces that a total of 30,841 shareholders have elected to receive the final dividend of 49p per ordinary share in respect of 172,173,451 ordinary shares in the form of Scrip dividend.

This will result in the issue of 7,524,682 new ordinary shares, fully paid, an increase of 0.82% on the issued share capital on dividend record date of 30 July 2010.  The relevant Scrip Reference Share Price was 1,119 pence per ordinary share.
