Spectris plc announces that on 25 April 2007 it purchased 50,000 of its 5p
ordinary shares at a volume weighted average price paid per share of 917.950p.
Spectris plc purchased these shares via Hoare Govett Limited's affiliate, ABN
AMRO Bank N.V., London Branch.

The highest price paid per share was 918p, and the lowest price paid was 917p.

The shares purchased will be held as treasury shares. Following the above
purchase, Spectris plc holds 408,145 shares in treasury.

The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares) is
124,596,978.
