                      NEW BOARD APPOINTMENT AT SHANTA GOLD



Shanta is pleased to announce the appointment to the company's board of Richard
Kojo Jonah, as a non-executive director, effective from 16 September 2006.



Richard Jonah is one of the founder members of Jonah Capital, a private equity
company established in 2003 which holds significant investments in the financial
services industry in Africa.  More recently Jonah Capital has been taking
advantage of investment opportunities in African mining ventures - a sector
associated with the Jonah family for more than 30 years.



Richard Kojo Jonah, aged 30, is a Ghanian by birth and an economics graduate
from Haverford College in the United States.  He has gained valuable experience
in the investment banking divisions of Goldman Sachs in New York, and at NM
Rothschild in London, at which time he traveled extensively in Africa.



Shanta CEO Richard Shead commented today: "Richard's international experience in
corporate finance and investment banking, combined with the Jonah family's
association with mining ventures in highly prospective regions such as Tanzania
provide a rare combination of local knowledge and global experience, which
should contribute to the further success of AIM-listed Shanta's fast-tracked
exploration programme in Tanzania."



In addition to his board position at Jonah Capital, Richard Jonah is also a
director or partner of the following companies or partnerships:



•         Freedom International Technologies;

•         Scharrig Mining Limited;

•         Metropolitan Insurance Company; and

•         General Leasing Ghana Limited.



Other than Richard Jonah's current directorships disclosed above he has not,
within the last five years, been a director or partner of any other companies or
partnerships.



There is no further information to be disclosed pursuant to schedule 2,
paragraph (g) of the AIM Rules.
