Repurchase of ordinary shares for cancellation


The Scottish American Investment Company plc announces that on 18 March 2002 it
purchased for cancellation a further 50,000 ordinary shares in the market at a
price of 199p per ordinary share. As a result of this and purchases already
announced there remain 142,489,943 ordinary shares in issue.
