THE SCOTTISH AMERICAN INVESTMENT COMPANY PLC (SAINTS)

Mr William Berry (a Director) notified the Company by letter dated 2nd May
2000 that he had resigned as a Trustee of Miss Doris Barclay's Trusts for
Peter Barclay's Liferent and for Mrs P J O'Rorke's Liferent. With effect from
2nd May 2000 Mr Berry no longer has an interest in each of the Trust's
holdings of 4,360 SAINTS shares.
