The Company received notification on 10 September 2001 in accordance with the
Companies Act 1985 (as amended) that with effect from 5 September 2001
Barclays plc, through its subsidiary Barclays Bank plc, have a notifiable
interest in 13,892,880 ordinary shares of 10p each of the Company ('shares')
which represents 3.19% of the total issued share capital of the Company.
