Rolls-Royce PLC 26 October 2001 26 October 2001 ROLLS-ROYCE SELECTED AS ENGINE SUPPLIER FOR NEW BOMBARDIER BUSINESS JET Rolls-Royce plc and Bombardier Aerospace have announced selection of the Rolls-Royce BR710 engine as the powerplant for the Bombardier Global 5000 super large business jet, a new derivative of the ultra long-range Bombardier Global Express, also powered by the BR710. John Holding, executive vice-president, Engineering and Product Development, Bombardier Aerospace, said: 'After carefully reviewing our powerplant options for the Bombardier Global 5000, we selected the Rolls-Royce BR710 to power the newest member of the Bombardier Global Express family. 'Our confidence is based on the proven success of the Bombardier Global Express aircraft currently in service as well as our long-standing relationship with Rolls-Royce.' John Cheffins, Chief Operating Officer and President - Civil Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, said: 'The Bombardier Global 5000 programme reflects the positive outlook of Bombardier Aerospace and Rolls-Royce in the strength of the business jet market. Rolls-Royce has modern cost-effective products and is poised to meet this demand.' The Bombardier Global 5000 will fly non-stop from central North America to continental Europe at a speed of Mach 0.85 (561 mph, 903 km/h), with eight passengers plus three crew. It will also fly non-stop at Mach 0.85 (561 mph; 903 km/h) from Europe to central North America. The Bombardier Global 5000 will enter corporate service in late 2004. The BR710 is capable of delivering 14,000lb to 17,000lb (62.7 to 76.2 kN) of thrust. Its power throughout the flight envelope, and its fuel efficiency, make it an ideal powerplant for the new generations of long-range and ultra long-range business jets. It also offers low noise and excellent emission characteristics, ensuring unrestricted access to local airports around the world. First flight of the Bombardier Global Express took place in October 1996, followed by BR710 engine certification in January 1997. The aircraft entered service in 1999, and holds 16 world records, including US transcontinental flights, Atlantic and Pacific crossings. The BR710 also powers the Gulfstream V and V-SP ultra long-range business jets, and has been selected to power the BAE SYSTEMS Nimrod MRA4, the UK's new maritime reconnaissance aircraft. Another member of the BR700 family, the larger BR715, is the sole powerplant for the Boeing 717 passenger jet.
