PRESS RELEASE October 2, 2009 at 8.00 am CET Today, a dispatch hall is inaugurated in Degerfors and on October 5, a grinding machine and a new entry section to the annealing and pickling line is inaugurated in Nyby, Torshälla. The investments, totally 65 million euro, are based on Outokumpu's strategy to increase sales of special grades and to increase sales to end users. The dispatch hall at Outokumpu in Degerfors is a state-of-the-art, fully automized storage with integrated packaging and dispatch. The trains and trucks that shall ship the stainless steel forward are being loaded inside the hall. The surface of the hall is 7,500 square metres and it can store 4 500 tons. The new operation increases the possibilities to give good customer service and delivery performance. The new grinding machine with a automized intermediate storage and the entry section to the annealing and pickling line in Nyby, increases the production capacity for special grades from 34,000 tons to over 70,000 tons a year. "We have a long-term belief in the market for stainless steel and the investments are a part of this. The dispacth hall in Degerfors will increase efficiency and product quality since the operations can now be held indoors. In Nyby, we are removing a bottle neck from the production and can now improve quality even further", says Bo Annvik, head of division Outokumpu Specialty Stainless. Outokumpu in Degerfors produces stainless thick plates, so called quarto plates, that are used for bridges, tankers and desalination plants for example. Outokumpu in Nyby produces stainless thin strip for among others, heat exchangers and water heaters.
