Director's interests in shares of Old Mutual plc (the 'Company')

The Company has been informed, by a letter received today, that Mr P G
Joubert, a non-executive director of the Company, purchased an indirect,
beneficial interest in 20,000 ordinary shares of 10 pence each in the Company
on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange on Friday 8 September 2000.  10,000 of
these were acquired at a price of 17.60 Rand each and a further 10,000 were
acquired at a price of 17.65 Rand each.  The total number of shares in the
Company in which Mr Joubert is now interested is 50,000.
