Trading Statement

NMT Group PLC 09 December 2003 9 December 2003 NMT Group PLC Trading Update NMT Group, the manufacturer of retractable devices to prevent needlestick injury, announces that due to insufficient forward orders it will cease manufacture at its production facility in Livingston, Scotland with immediate effect. During the next three months, NMT will be undertaking a significant cost-restructuring programme including redundancies. In the short to medium term the company will continue to focus its commercial activities on the licensing of its second-generation intellectual property and the development of its pre-filled safety needle unit technology. NMT remains in discussion with several partners with regard to the licensing of its second-generation syringe technology. NMT's cash position remains healthy and the directors are encouraged by the potential of NMT's range of pre-filled safety needle units, about which the company is currently in discussion with several leading pharmaceutical companies. Roy Smith, Chief Executive Officer, said: 'Despite the significant efforts to secure additional business the 2004 forward order book leaves us no option but to cease the manufacture of our first generation syringe technology and close our production facility at Livingston. This decision is particularly hard given the excellent improvements in productivity achieved throughout the calendar year.'
