Sale of Laser Diode Inc. to Tyco International

Morgan Crucible Co PLC 5 April 2000 Morgan Crucible Company plc Sale of Laser Diode Inc. to Tyco International Ltd The Morgan Crucible Company plc ('Morgan') has reached agreement to dispose of the business and assets of Laser Diode Inc. to Tyco International Ltd, for cash consideration totalling US$26.5 million, on a debt and cash free basis. It is anticipated that, subject to any necessary regulatory approvals, completion will take place on 1 May 2000. Laser Diode manufactures emitters, receivers and ruggedized modules for the fibre optic communications industry, and a range of high energy, short-pulse duration diode lasers. Ian Norris, Morgan's Chief Executive, commented: 'We are pleased to be able to announce another transaction with Tyco following on from the recent successful sale of our Power Industry Products division.
