BSS is a leading personal storage business, operating from six sites, which are all geographically complementary to the Group's 26 existing stores; two in Stockport, two in Bristol and one in each of Bath and Reading. In the year to 30 April 2000 BSS achieved proforma operating profits of £1.3 million on turnover of £3.0 million and had net assets at the year end of £1.9 million. This result was achieved prior to the opening of Reading, Europe's largest purpose built self storage centre, and with 37% of space at BSS's other five stores available for use by customers. Commenting on the acquisition of BSS, Nick Smith, Chairman of Mentmore Abbey, said: 'BSS is a perfect fit with our existing operations and offers excellent growth potential. It allows us to increase our space by 55% without incurring the normal operating losses associated with new centre openings. We are delighted to have secured this quality opportunity.'
