New Director

The Board of The Fleming Mercantile Investment Trust plc are pleased to announce
the appointment of Dr Sandy Nairn as a non-executive Director with effect from
1st December 2003.

Dr Nairn is a founder, an Investment Partner and Chief Executive of Edinburgh
Partners.  Between November 2000 and March 2003 he was Chief Investment Officer
of Scottish Widows Investment Partnership.  Prior to this Dr Nairn was Executive
Vice President and Director of Global Equity Research at Templeton Investment
Management and a portfolio manager and research analyst  at Murray Johnstone.

Notification of other details requiring disclosure under paragraph 16.4 of the
FSA listing Rules will be made in due course.
