Martin  Currie  Portfolio Investment Trust plc, on 30 April  2009,  bought  back
143,000   ordinary  shares  at  a  price  of  94.25p  per  share  for  immediate
cancellation.

Following this purchase 132,890,343 ordinary shares remain in issue.
