HANS-ERIK ANDERSSON TO HEAD NORDIC REGION FOR
MARSH & McLENNAN COMPANIES AND MARSH EUROPE

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, December 21, 1999 - Hans-Erik Andersson has been appointed
to the dual posts of chairman of the Nordic region for both Marsh & McLennan
Companies (MMC) and Marsh Europe, MMC's risk and insurance services operating
company in Europe.

In his Marsh Europe capacity, Mr. Andersson will be responsible for that
firm's businesses in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.  He will report to
Daniel L. Jones, president and chief executive officer of Marsh Europe.

As chairman of MMC in the Nordic region, Mr. Andersson will report to Mathis
Cabiallavetta, vice chairman of MMC and chairman of MMC Europe.  Mr.
Andersson's principal MMC responsibility will be to work with the leaders of
the company's operating subsidiaries, Marsh Europe and Mercer Consulting
Group, in the Nordic region to coordinate business development and enhance
service to clients.

Mr. Andersson previously was a senior executive with the insurance and
reinsurance operations of Skandia Group.  His positions with that firm
included chairman of Skandia International and executive vice-president,
Nordic Property-Casualty.  Mr. Andersson also served as executive director
with the U.K. reinsurer Mercantile & General.  Prior to entering the insurance
field, he was associated with Siemens and Johnson & Johnson.
