Kier Group PLC 01 February 2005 KIER SELECTED TO UPGRADE EAST ANGLIA'S RAILWAY Kier has been named one of seven framework contractors for Network Rail in its bid to rebuild Britain's railway. The five-year contract which was signed on Tuesday 26 January to carry out improvement work throughout the East Anglia region has an estimated value of £20m in the first year. The contract, which carries a performance-related option to extend for a further two years, is one of seven awarded by Network Rail and forms an integral part of the drive to improve the condition of its assets whilst delivering better train service performance and reducing costs. As part of the framework which is due to start on 1 April, Kier's role will be to renew structures, including; bridges, retaining walls, embankments, tunnels, culverts, drainage and earthworks throughout East Anglia. Lines include Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire to the east of the East Coast Mainline and the North East sector of London.
