NOTIFICATION CONCERNING MAJOR INTERESTS IN THE ORDINARY SHARES OF £0.001 EACH IN 
THE CAPITAL OF INVESTEC plc ('Ordinary Shares')
 
 
Notification pursuant to section 198 of the Companies Act 1985.
 
 
Investec plc (the 'Company') received notification on the 30th September 2004
from Fintique III (BVI) Limited  ('Fintique') that its interest in the Company
has decreased as a result of the disposal by it of 1,500,000 Ordinary  Shares of
the Company. The shares were acquired by Investec Trust (Guernsey) Limited,
Trustee of the Investec plc  Jersey Trust Number 1. The delivery and settlement
date in terms of this transaction, subject to all legal and  regulatory
approvals or consents, is the 15th December 2004
