DISCLOSURE OF INTEREST IN SHARES UNDER SECTION 198

Home Retail Group plc ('the Company') has today received a notification from
Goldman Sachs International advising that with effect from close of business on
19 October 2006 The Goldman Sachs Group Inc ('GSG') no longer had a disclosable
interest in the ordinary shares in the Company.

The notification was issued pursuant to Sections 198 to 202 of the Companies Act
1985 and was dated 23 October 2006.

At the time of their last such notification (released on 16 October 2006), GSG
held 30,757,207 ordinary shares in the Company (representing 3.50% of the issued
share capital as at that date).
