DISCLOSURE OF INTEREST IN SHARES UNDER SECTION 198

Home Retail Group plc ('the Company') has today received a notification from
Legal & General Investment Management Limited ('LGIML') advising that LGIML now
holds 46,894,946 ordinary shares in the Company (representing 5.34% of the
issued ordinary share capital of the Company).

The notification was issued pursuant to Sections 198 to 202 of the Companies Act
1985 and was dated 18 October 2006.

At the time of their last such notification (released on 13 October 2006), LGIML
held 40,433,361 ordinary shares in the Company (representing 4.60% of the issued
share capital as at that date).
