DISCLOSURE OF INTEREST IN SHARES UNDER SECTION 198

Home Retail Group plc ('the Company') has today received a notification from
Goldman Sachs International ('GSI') advising that GSI now holds 30,757,207
ordinary shares in the Company (representing 3.50% of the issued ordinary share
capital of the Company).

The notification was issued pursuant to Sections 198 to 202 of the Companies Act
1985 and was dated 13 October 2006.
