DISCLOSURE OF INTEREST IN SHARES UNDER SECTION 198

Home Retail Group plc ('the Company') has today received a notification from
Legal & General Investment Management Limited ('LGIML') advising that LGIML now
holds 40,433,361 ordinary shares in the Company (representing 4.60% of the
issued ordinary share capital of the Company).

The notification was issued pursuant to Sections 198 to 202 of the Companies Act
1985 and was dated 13 October 2006.
