The Company is pleased to announce that it has, yesterday, issued 159,993 new
ordinary shares of 10p pursuant to its Executive Share Option Schemes, of which
155,993 were subsequently sold to satisfy outstanding institutional demand for
shares in the market.

Accordingly application has been made for the admission to trading on AIM of
159,993 ordinary shares of 10p in Genus plc ('the Company'). The shares will
rank pari passu in all respects with the existing issued ordinary share capital
of the Company and trading is expected to commence on 14 January 2004. The
number of shares in issue following this listing will be 34,065,939.
