The Company wishes to announce the appointment of Michael John Allen as an
independent non-executive director with effect from 21st November 2002.



Michael Allen, aged 65, is currently on the boards of Safeway plc and Alliance
and Leicester plc as a non-executive director, having spent most of his life as
a senior executive with Procter & Gamble.



Michael Allen was a non-executive director of Essex & Suffolk Water until 1999.
There are no matters relating to Michael Allen that require disclosure under
Schedule 2 (f) (iii) to (viii) of the Aim Rules.
