Buy-back of ordinary shares

On 25 July 2000, The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc bought back a further
1,350,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of 533p per share.
Following the buy back, there are 255,249,644 ordinary shares in issue. The
share buy-back will be financed out of the capital reserve.
