Diageo plc (the 'Company') announces that it received notification on 24 April
2001 under sections 198-208 of the Companies Act 1985 (as amended) (the 'Act')
that as at the close of business on 20 April 2001, Barclays Bank PLC
('Barclays') became interested for the purposes of the Act in 124,497,493
ordinary shares of 28 101/108 pence each in the Company ('Ordinary Shares').
This represents 3.65% of the issued share capital of the Company.
