Costain awarded major MAC 12 Highways contract

Costain, in a joint venture with consultants Halcrow and contractor Colas, announces that it has been awarded a five-year £200 million Managing Agent Contractor ('MAC') contract to carry out routine operational and maintenance services and deliver improvements on the motorways and trunk roads in Area 12, which covers Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

Representing 9% of the Highways Agency's network, the area contains 1177 kilometres of motorway and trunk roads as well as 1330 structures such as bridges and gantries. 

The contract will take effect from 1 October 2009.

Commenting on the contract award, Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive, said:

'The award of this important contract further reinforces Costain's position as a leading player in both the construction and maintenance of highways in the UK.'
