                    Purchase of own shares for cancellation



Compass Group PLC announces that on 27 December 2006 it purchased for
cancellation 425,000 ordinary shares at a price of 290.7188 pence per share from
Morgan Stanley.


Following the purchase and upon cancellation of these shares, the number of
ordinary shares of Compass Group PLC in issue with voting rights will be
2,057,362,640.
