TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Close Brothers Group plc ('the Company') announces that on 22 July 2009 it transferred 12,524 ordinary shares of 25 pence each from treasury to participants in its employee share plans.  The transfer price was 542.98 pence.

Following the transfer of these shares, the Company holds 5,550,623 of its ordinary shares in treasury and has 143,922,543 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
