                    THE CITY OF LONDON INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

Application has been made to the London Stock Exchange and the UK Listing
Authority for a block listing of 2,700,000 Ordinary Shares of 25p each fully
paid to be admitted to the Official List. The new shares will rank pari passu
with the existing Ordinary Shares.

The block listing will cover issues other than those covered by existing block
listings for share plan and PEP schemes.
